Oman

Muscat

A sleepy seaside city with many cultural attractions and a beautiful, miles long beach to enjoy.

Restaurants:

  • Slider Station

    • Delicious sliders. The food is great and it's right on the beach, so you can go for a walk after. It is also near Camel Cookies, which is a great dessert. More

  • Turkish House

    • Delicious Turkish food at a reasonable price. Not fancy, just good food - especially the fish. Make sure you pay the meter if you park, even for only 2 minutes. More

  • Bin Ateeq

    • Traditional Omani food for a very low price. No frills but tasty food. You have to sit on the floor in a room without much ambiance. More

Activities:

  • Opera House - Take a tour (or see a show) - the opera house is beautiful on the inside and they have unique instruments on display.

  • Grand Mosque - Gorgeous. Only open to visitors in the morning and is closed on Fridays. Free. Wrists and ankles must be covered, as well as hair (not face) - you will have to take your shoes off to go inside the buildings.

  • National Museum - Start with a nice video about the history of Muscat, then spend 2-3 hours seeing everything on display - really nice overview of the country's history.

  • Muttrah Souk - Located on the waterfront and surround by old fort towers, this area is definitely worth a stroll. The souk itself is very touristy, but still fun to do.

  • Bait Al Zubair Museum - From the reviews online, we thought this would be better than the National Museum, but it isn't. Go if you have time, but otherwise it can be skipped.
